This quite literally blows my mind :)

Post by Tomsk » Tue Jan 31, 2012 1:03 pm

Looking on Ebay the other day to find some 1/144 biplanes for my Wings of war game (I'm stil a keen wargamer and modeler) I saw a reference to shapeways......

Decided to click and what I've found realy stuns my geeky mind. I had no idea this kinda stuff existed. The idea that somone can just sit down, design a shape and get it 'printed' in all sorts of materials, and sent to them is amazing.....We're not as far from the sci-fi 'replicators' as I thought.

The example of somone breaking a part of their pushchair, knocking up a blueprint and getting it 'printed' in METAL and just posted to them. I can only imagine what you'll be able to order off here soon.

Some of the art.

What took me there in the first place.

No Dora you can't print choccie biscuits yet..................

Very nice.

On a sort of similar idea is the Lego website where you can put in dimensions and designs for any object and they will make the kit for you, and send you a custom made box with the pieces in and the instructions on how to build it :)

Now that is truly scary. Think what would happen if they started to make 3D copies of Tomsk.... The world as we know it would end.
