Rift Application - Deepsea

Mellow greetings to all,

Following a comment by an old work buddy of mine (Castagir), I thought I might pop over here and say howdy. I'm not currently in the RIFT Beta or anything at present, but have pre-ordered.

Allow me to introduce myself. I am Deepsea (here, and in main or in alt with the same name in many games - more on this shortly!), and I'm a 32 year old guy from the north-east of England. I'm married, lucky enough to have a wife who has also played MMOs in the past and tolerates my mild addiction, and we're parents to both a fabulous little girl who's nearly 5, and a two week old sister to her.

I've been a player of MMOs for around the last 12 or 13 years or so; in no order, Final Fantasy XI, Anarchy Online, City Of Heroes/Villains, Champions Online, Dark And Light, EVE Online, EQ2, Pirates Of The Burning Sea, Vanguard, World Of Warcraft, Earth & Beyond, and my one true love - Star Wars Galaxies.

I was leader of an Imperial guild on the euro-chimaera server for around 3 years; before SOE ruined everything with their 'New Game Enhancements'. I'm not going to sound off about this because it still quite upsets me now, what they did. Even this long after, I've still not quite gotten over it and bear them much ill-will.

I was a crafter of solid reputation, a Shipwright, who could spend all day talking 'shop' about crafting if given the chance with fellow craft nerds or potential customers. Crafting is always something I'm interested in in any game I play.

I wasted huge chunks of my teenage years with Warhammer 40K (back when it didn't suck), Warhammer Fantasy Battle (and WFRP) and was always keen on Call Of Cthulhu as well. Latterly I've been back in WoW and surprisingly enjoying the new content.

I'm absolutely terrible at PVP. I'm one of those odd guys who socialises and jokes about, and sits on the tops of mountains in games, admiring the view. I essentially dabble in whatever, generally helping others out. I've usually played Paladins or their ilk, heavy armour wearing healers who can also wade in and kick behind as appropriate.

From the information in the Charter, it seems that myself and Daedalus are of very similar outlook. I guess at heart, I'm an old fashioned Brit who highly values manners, and being polite and respectful to any who do not demand the opposite by their words and deeds. My guilds were always hand-picked people of the highest conversational and moral calibre, ensuring that we remained relatively small in numbers but high in quality.

Put in simpler terms, it was just nice to know that you could log in and that 'guild chat' would be certified dickhead free :)

I try to use Teamspeak/Ventrilo when I can, but due to family commitments I tend to be on quite late and therefore may only log in to listen so as not to disturb the kids and missus upstairs with my chattering. However, I'll always jump on to say hello if at all possible and will enjoy annoying you all with film quotes and various accents until kicked/muted.

Forgive my ramblings, and I hope to catch you all soon. Until then - be well. And if you can't be good - at least be vigorous.

Hi Deep, thanks for the App.

Congrats on the newborn!

As a friend of Cast it's pretty much go straight to go and collect £200, I'll get your permissions sorted out.

I ran an Imperial guild on Gorrath for about 18 months before the strains of running a guild who were 95% on US time took its inevitable toll. Those were the days indeed!

With a name like that you're not a diver are you, or am I being fanciful?

Welcome along.

Thanks for the welcome chaps.

And no, the funny thing is I can't even swim

Somewhat bizarrely, I've always been fascinated by the sea and naval history though and have a bit of a thing for submarines. Submarines rock. :geek:

My Mon Cal main character (see my avatar here) was very dark blue skinned and as they're kind of a semi-aquatic species I named him Deepsea Coldwater due to the hue and imagery. I had another account, a really deep red skinned Mon Cal who had a backstory of being Deepsea's uncle, and he was called Scalding Hotwater.

Even old gaming mates who know my real name just call me 'Deep' these days, it's quite funny :D

You sound like a perfect fit, Deepsea, and any mention of Call of Cthulhu gets a thumbs up from me!

Not directly, while we met while working at the same place we never actually got the chance to game together - until RIFT, I guess! :D

The only boardgame I used to play with any regularity back in the day was Space Hulk. I kind of drifted away from the scene really, got more into other stuff like writing and music. MMOs pulled me back into the gaming whirlpool and have had a special place in my heart ever since - no fiddling about with miniatures (though I was an avid painter), transport costs, scheduling nightmares etc etc. - just log on, see who's about, talk bollocks and have fun. :)

Thoroughly looking forward to getting to know you all much better in due course. The warm welcome is appreciated!

Just in case you haven't seen them:

Welcome aboard Deep!

Submarines do indeed rock, this one rocks especially as it's made of cardboard! I can still really vividly remember Burgess Meredith saying "Fire Delta Beam!"

** 'The most exciting underwater adventure ever billed' and 'The underwater battle of the century' can be viewed with modern eyes as, perhaps exaggerations!
